SERVICES

Interested in joining us for worship?

What to Expect

Our service has two basic parts. The first half is centered on the Word, in which we listen to Bible readings, a sermon and offer prayers. The second half is focused on the Sacrament of Holy Communion, during which we bring bread and wine to the altar table, asking God’s blessing so that they may become for us the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

Questions About Worship

Answers to common questions about worship at Good Shepherd can be found here.

  • When are your worship services held?

We hold worship sessions twice weekly. Worship without music takes place on Saturday evenings at 5:30 PM, while worship with music takes place on Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM.

  • How will I know what to do during worship?

Rooted in the rich Episcopal tradition of worship, our weekly worship styles – simple spoken, contemporary music and traditional choral music – provide an inspiring and renewing experience of God’s presence in our modern lives. Our sanctuary offers a sacred space to pray and to experience Jesus Christ, who is made present to us in the Scripture proclaimed and the Communion meal we share. You’ll hear a sermon reflecting on the Bible passages appointed for the day, and applied to our individual and communal lives. Everything you need is in the bulletin provided or the Book of Common Prayer found in the chairs.

  • How can I get there?

There is a map on our home page showing our location on West 21st Street North in Wichita. The main entrance is on the south side of the building and the parking lot can be reached from Woodchuck Street or 21st Street. Our facility is disability accessible and has disability parking spots available near the south doors.

  • What should I wear?

It’s up to you. Some come dressed in their “Sunday best” while others prefer a more casual attire. We invite you and your family to dress in whatever way you are comfortable (jeans are acceptable).

  • Do you offer childcare during worship?

Currently, our nursery is staffed on Sunday mornings during 10:00 AM worship and is open to children from birth to five years of age. Caregivers provide a safe and loving environment for children while their parents participate in worship. The infant nursery may also be used as a “cry room” for parents who would like to stay with their babies and still hear the service. The nursery is located adjacent to the sanctuary. All staff has completed Safeguarding God’s Children, www.safeguardingonline.org , a child-protection training program required by the Episcopal Church.

  • Do you have Sunday School for children?

Children's Sunday School takes place in Classroom A from 11:15 - 11:45 on Sundays. You are welcome to bring your children to learn more about the life-giving love of God!

  • What is fellowship after worship like at Good Shepherd?

Each Sunday after worship has concluded, parishioners and visitors gather in the Fellowship Hall to share coffee and snacks and to socialize. We also have many opportunities for fellowship outside of worship through our many ministries.
