Carrying God's Love Into the World

"Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me." Matthew 25:40"

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” Desmond Tutu

There is a place for everyone at Good Shepherd to carry God’s love into the world. We seek to serve Christ by serving others.

Areas of service include:
Episcopal Social Service Volunteers serve as mentors for troubled teens, representative payees, kitchen help to feed the hungry, helping the unemployed look for work, reception help, and financial donations for the support of the work of ESS.
Operation Plenty
  • December--providing food and gifts for needy families in Wichita
  • Spring—providing food for needy families with children as summer approaches and school is out
Operation Clothesline Providing school uniforms to low income local students.
Our Little Roses Orphanage Providing needed supplies and items to homeless girls in Honduras
Episcopal Relief and Development A Christian relief organization providing assistance world wide
Church-Wide Garage Sale All proceeds benefit Watoto Child Care Ministries and Our Little Roses Ministries
Sponsorship of Children and Adults In 2008 we began encouraging support of the MDG's by sponsoring a child or elderly person, usually at about $30 per month.  The response was quick, with adults and children becoming involved as sponsors. Information and photos of persons being sponsored are on the outreach table in the fellowship hall. Currently we are sponsoring thirty-two children and four adults.
St. Bartholomew's Clothes Closet Donating clothing for the homeless and those in need (sponsored by ECW)
Eucharistic Visitors A lay person is authorized to take the Consecrated Elements in a timely manner following a Celebration of Holy Eucharist to members of the congregation who,by reason of ilness or infirmity, are unable to be present at the Celebration.

Other Outreach projects are determined throughout the year. We welcome ideas and/or needs in our local and worldwide community. Contact Deacon Bob Hirst if you wish to serve, offer ideas, or volunteer to help.

Sponsor a Child

Child in needAs we seek to share from our abundance with those in need, our hope is that at least 50% of our parish will sponsor a child in need in a third world country.

Information about this is located on the outreach table in Fellowship Hall.  The cost is usually around $30 per month.  If you have questions about the integrity of a particular organization, visit Charity Navigator

When you receive a picture of your child, we hope you will post a copy of the picture on the bulletin board in Fellowship Hall.  No names of sponsors will be posted, only the photos of the children.  Questions or comments may be e-mailed to Deacon Bob.
