Spiritual Growth Through Christian Education

"Teach them the statutes and instructions and make known to them the way they are to go and the things they are to do." Exodus 18:20

Wanting a better connection with Christ? Good Shepherd’s Sunday School and other education programs focus on bringing our children, teens, and adults into a deeper relationship with our Saviour. We teach Holy Scripture and Liturgy coming together to give our children a better understanding of Jesus and our lives in Him.

From Adults to Infants there is something for everyone. Look below for more details.

Infants and Toddlers
Our experienced nursery staff and volunteers make sure that your children have a great and toy-full time while you take a few moments to pause and worship during any of our services. Childcare is also happily provided for study groups and all other occasions.

Pre-K through 3th grade
A fascinating mixture of old and new in our Sunday School classes reflects the worship and grounding in Christ which is a hallmark of the Anglican tradition. Using a few different Christian programs, we introduce the children to the life and culture that Jesus experienced. And we bring the children into a better understanding of the ways we worship.

Club 4/5
Fourth and fifth graders delve into a dynamic hands-on, active curriculum that puts them in the mood to learn and understand more about faith and how to apply it to their sometimes frustrating tween lives.

Children’s Chapel
Good Shepherd’s Children’s Chapel program offers children (ages 3 through 8) a better understanding of the Episcopal Liturgy. Our original material, created in a format specifically for these ages. This time also serves as a ministry for parents, allowing them the freedom to worship for the first half of each Sunday Service. The children rejoin their parents to participate in Holy Communion.

Middle School Sundays
Lectionary-based and crammed with great discussions on Holy Scripture, High School teens and Middle School tweens can find a comfortable connection with God here in their own classes with their own age groups.

High School Sundays
Good Shepherd High Schoolers would like to spend more time finding all sorts of funky rules and punishments in the Old Testament. But that’s just a hobby. Otherwise, they use their time to learn how to apply Christ’s teachings using the Living the Good News curriculum.

Youth Groups
High School Youth and Middle School Youth meet in their respective rooms (in the west wing) at 6 p.m. every Sunday night! Snacks, games, discussions, and holiday activities dominate these groups’ and offer lots of time for making new friends and finding old ones.

Small Group Studies
The Tuesday Morning Study Group continues a fascinating discussion from the DVD, "Faith Lessons on the Promised Land" for three more weeks. Come join us at 10 a.m. every Tuesday in the Library.

Adult Classes
In between services, don't miss out on the following offerings for adult education and formation. Currently, the Adult Sunday School class led by Ted Blakley is working its way through the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7), and exploring how Jesus' teachings are intended to be good news. So, grab a snack and head to the end of the Education Wing. Or if you are in the mood for something different this weekend, come join the Young Adult Fellowship for a cup of coffee or tea and sit back and relax with other parents and singles and couples. Find old friends and make more here every Sunday.

More Bible Studies and discussion groups are coming soon.

The Resurrection of Jesus

A Series on Sunday Mornings

In the Adult Sunday School Class, we have for some time been working our way through the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew, looking at Jesus' teaching on transforming initiatives, which are designed to free us and our world from bondage to vicious cycles and systems of anger, lust, and violence. From now until Easter, we will be looking at Jesus' teachings on how to respond to evil through the transforming initiatives of nonviolent direct action and loving our enemies.

But after Easter, we will take a break from the Sermon on the Mount and explore the resurrection of Jesus. Some of the questions we will seek to answer are: What did the early Christians mean when they said that God had raised Jesus from the dead? Were they speaking literally, metaphorically, or a mixture of both? What exactly were they claiming, and how are we today to understand, interpret, and appropriate such an extraordinary claim? Moreover, what is the meaning and ongoing significance of the resurrection for Jesus himself, for Christians, for the whole world and its future?

Our conversation partner for this series will be N. T. Wright, who taught New Testament at the universities of Cambridge, McGill, and Oxford and who currently serves as the Bishop of Durham in the Church of England. Bishop Wright has written and spoken extensively on the historicity and significance of Jesus' resurrecton. Just to be clear, Bishop Wright will not actually be here in person though he will on occasion appear via DVD technology. As a preview, you may wish to browse the N. T. Wright page (www.ntwrightpage.com), which hosts a growing collection of Wright's articles, sermons, and lectures on a host of topics and in a variety of formats, including audio and video.
